Thin Man Soup

I first had this soup at a little local deli and fell in love with it. My husband-to-be worked part time at this deli while he was going to graduate school and when the deli closed the owner gave him the recipe, so now I have it to share with you. This is a bit spicy, so the younger ones might find it too hot for their taste. This is a large recipe, (makes 2 gallons!)so you might want to half it, or plan to freeze some for another day. This is great cooked in a crockpot, if you have one large enough.

1-2 pounds chicken breasts 1 cup onion, chopped 1 cup carrots, chopped 1/2 gal. chicken broth 3 cups whole tomatoes 2 green peppers, chopped 2 apples, chopped 1 cup celery, chopped 1/2 Tab. curry powder 1/4 Tab. cloves 1/2 Tab salt 1/4 Tab. black pepper 1/4 stick butter Rounded 1/4 cup sugar juice of 1/4 lemon 3 Tab, flour, if needed
Mix together all ingredients except the flour. Simmer for several hours. If not desired thickness, add flour, one Tablespoon at a time until desired thickness is achieved.
